Let Fast Performance Shine Through - Hard Drive Cleaning Tips for Windows®

When it comes to PCs, more is always better right?

More files archived, more software to utilize, more music and games to enjoy. When it comes to digital space, we are living fat and happy.

But even though computers come fitted with increasingly large hard drives, loads of clutter still slows you down.

Therefore, consider a little “house cleaning” between saving, downloading and installing files. It only takes a few minutes, and it may save you hours of waiting on a slow computer:

ScanDisk or Disk Cleanup—This function will allow you to clear your disk of unnecessary files. You may discover a heap of free space that was previously wasted. Utilize the following path to execute, and then follow prompts:

Start→Programs→Accessories→System Tools→ScanDisk
or Disk Cleanup

Uninstall Unused Components—Windows comes pre-loaded with many programs. But if you are not using them, turn the free software into free space. Simply uninstall unused items in the following menu:

Start→Settings→Control Panel→Add/Remove Programs

Manually Delete Unnecessary Files—Although Windows has many tools to help you maintain a clean hard drive, nothing can replace a little human judgment. Take time once a quarter to sift through files and manually delete any dated or unneeded files. This is especially important in regards to large files, like music and videos that may be eating up space.

In the world of PC maintenance, more is still better. More maintenance means better performance over time.
